NBC NBC NOGHTLY News anchor Lester Holt announced Monday that it will withdraw after a decade of poisoning the network evening.
Holt, 65, will remain with NBC in a full -time role in “Dateline”, where he has been the main anchor for nearly 15 years, according to a memorandum shared with staff.
Holt, who is reportedly earning a heavy salary of about $ 10 million a year, said he would continue to anchor the evening news until the “start of summer”.
“As a 20-year-old police reporter in the police could follow broken news about San Francisco, I could never imagine my career way to unfold the way it has,” Holt wrote in a note for employees. “Amazing Travel Affairs”.
NBC News did not immediately name a successor.
Holt took over the “NBC Nightly News” in 2015 after the network hugged in the controversy – after it was revealed that the previous evening anchor Brian Williams had falsely claimed that he was in a hit helicopter in Iraq.
After the scandal, Holt filled for Williams while the shameful anchor was hit with a six-month-old suspension without a salary. Holt was officially given work after it was decided that Williams would be transferred to the left MSNBC.
Evening news has remained firmly in second place in after ABC ratings and much ahead of CBS under Holt’s time.
Since mid -February, NBC’s night broadcast has withdrawn about 6.7 million viewers, crossing 8.3 million “World News Tonight” of ABC with David Muir, according to Nielsen. CBS’s “Evening News”, which is already drawn into a controversial adjustment in its format after sharing ways with Norah O’Donnell, withdrew 4.5 million viewers, according to Nielsen.
Holt “has led the network over some of the country’s full and challenging time in the last decade,” wrote Janelle Rodriguez, the NBC News programming executive, in a note for employees.
“Simply, Lester is the beater of this news organization,” she added.
High National Tom Llamas correspondent may be in line for HOLT’s anchor chair, previously reported post. Llamas was eagerly waiting for Holt to retreat to what looked like a “slow -moving state coup” in 30 rock, according to Ankler.
Holt joins an exodus of veteran journalists at NBC since the beginning of the year that includes the host “Today” Hoda Kotb and Chuck Todd from “Meet the press”.
His exit also follows a massive shock to the MSNBC sister’s channel, which preserved the enraged host of anti-trump nonid Reid on Sunday, and canceled the shows anchored by Ayman Moyeldin, Katie Phang and Jonathan Capehert, sources told the post.
